lilypads in the water...

I saw this huge pond in the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney with lilypads filling it up. I tried to take a picture where they were also reflected in the water.

I really like this shot. The lines from the lily stalks are great, and the placement of the flower is perfect. The colors really look good and your exposure is perfect. I think the thing that is hurting this shot, and only because of the challenge theme, is that it isn't exactly about the water. While there is water in the shot the main subject is definitely the flower. This is a nicely done shot though.

Nice color in this shot. I would crop it in tighter though as the leaf at the bottom that is turned backwards is a bit distracting as well as the stalk that goes up through the shot on the left with the leaf at the top cut off. If you cropped in a bit closer above these items, it would be a better balanced shot.

Sorry, I misunderstood the challenge and thought it just had to have water in the picture. Next time I will read the instructions better - isn't that what they always tell you in school? Embarassed

I really like this picture as well. Even though it does seem like it places a little more emphasis on the plants than on the water it is well designed. I love the reflections in the watter of the lilys and I especially like the way the beads of water seem to be glowing on each of the leaves. The color of the flower really pops out as well in the sea of green. Good job!

It's a nice shot...not much water though and you could intensify the colors or make an artistic statement with this one.

I have to agree with the above posters, is not exactly about water. That said, this would be a great entry for flowers or foliage. I myself had a lot of ideas that included water, but I kept going back to the fact that it might be deemed DNMC (does not met challenge)

I do like the shot but I think the colors look a little bright, like you used a flash. I think Travis posted a tutorial on getting your colors to pop. If you lowered the exposure and made your colors "pop" it would add a lot to the image. Good first entry!

The lighting is great in this shot and it makes the stemps pop - similar to what everyone else is also talking about. (Though I'm new to this and don't know all the technical jargon - you all will have to help me get up to speed.)
