Standing Tall

I caught a glimpse of this old apartment building and knew I had found my shot! I pictured it in black and white and it turned out just as I expected.

This is my favorite shot for the week. I think that the b&w conversion really makes this shot what it is. The sky has some nice contrast in it, and the building really stands out. I really like how you get a row of buildings here. I do wish that we could see more down the row though, the shot looks skinnier than your sensor, so I'm guessing you cropped something out that was distracting, this could be why we don't see more of the buildings. I think that the crop help us to get a feeling of the tallness of the apartments though, so it ended up helping the picture in a way. I think you have a great tonal range from white to black in this shot. Nice job.

The dramatic sky plays well with the plain whitish walls. I also like that you can see that someone is living here (the rug, curtains) even though the building seems run down (shingles missing, crooked roof, hanging wires) The dimensions are unique, but maybe in this case the add to the effect. For some reason, though it looks wider on the top than bottom... Is the building tilted to the left?

Love, Love, Love the B&W and ominous sky above. I am a little distracted by the wires, rug, etc but I do like that it still makes it feel like it's being lived in and not some abandoned building. This is a really good shot. I am such a fan of B&W.

cheers Score-love the contrast the B&W gives this shot-the wires distracted me too but the sky and the roof lines more than made up for it!

When I first saw this shot, I thought you must have flown to Europe or something to do the architecture challenge. Who knew you could find something so cool in good old Salt Lake?Smile I really like the way you shot this. The angle is great and your black and white conversion is fabulous!

This is great! I love the contrast here and how it exaggerates the shadows and the sky! Nice work!

Works well as a B&W. I like the wires and such. Shows that it's lived in which adds to the gritty quality IMO. I do like how the fence leads your eye.
