Well...it was too windy and there were too many clouds this week to take the photo I had originally planned...so I improvised. Here is Orion.
Taken with my XT and Tamron 28-75 at 44mm f/2.8 SS 2sec.

Re: Orion
I think this is a great shot. I'm not a constellation expert, so I'm not sure if you have the whole thing, but it looks like you do. The only thing that I personally know for sure belongs to Orion is his belt, I guess I need to read up a bit. Anyway, I think you did a good job with filling the frame with the whole constellation. I wonder how many attempts this took you. I know when I have tried this, looking through your viewfinder it is hard to see the stars, it is just too dark. So getting the framing right can be a challenge. Also the length of the exposure is a challenge too, if you have too long of an exposure the stars will move on you and you start getting streaks. Well done, astrophotography is a challenging area, but it can produce some excellent images.
Re: Orion
I don't know anything about taking pictures of stars and night time skies, just what Travis has told me. I guess it is pretty good. It does make we want to get out there and give it a try...maybe when it gets warmer.

Re: Orion
Aaaah, good old Orion. I always can find him in the sky since he's pretty much the only constellation I can recognize immediately. Interesting take on the theme. Not a bad picture at all. Could have been fun to do a really long exposure to get the streaks from the Earth's movement in the stars.

Re: Orion
Nice job...I also would have loved to see the streaks of the stars from the earth's movement.

Re: Orion
Just like the rest of the replies, I know very little about the constalation. Anyways I thought it was a great idea! The stars really stand out. Generally speaking I thought it was a above average picture!
